Schola Sarmenti – Nauna Primitivo Negroamaro Salento IGT 75 cl.
Puglia – Italy
Nauna by Schola Sarmenti is a bold and expressive red wine from the sun-drenched region of Salento, in southern Puglia. Crafted from a carefully selected blend of 60% Negroamaro and 40% Primitivo, this wine is made from old vines – some over 60 years of age – cultivated using the traditional Apulian “alberello” method. These low-yielding vines produce grapes of remarkable concentration and character.
After a meticulous manual harvest, the wine undergoes fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve the purity of the fruit. It is then aged for 9 months in medium-toast French oak tonneaux, followed by further refinement in the bottle for 8 to 10 months.
In the glass, Nauna reveals a deep ruby red color with violet reflections. The bouquet is intense and layered, offering aromas of ripe blackberries, plums, dried herbs, balsamic notes, and refined hints of dark chocolate, tobacco, vanilla, and a gentle smokiness from the oak.
On the palate, the wine is velvety, full-bodied, and elegantly structured. The richness of the fruit is balanced by polished tannins and a vibrant acidity, giving the wine both depth and freshness. The finish is long, smooth, and warming, echoing flavors of chocolate, coffee, and sweet spices.
Nauna has received numerous accolades, including a Gold Medal at the Brussels World Competition and praise from top wine guides like Gambero Rosso and Guida Vitae. This is a wine that can be enjoyed now or cellared for 8–10 years to develop further complexity.
Ideal with grilled red meats, game dishes, rich pasta with ragu, or mature cheeses. It’s a wine for special occasions – or for those quiet moments when only the best will do.
