Passi Reali Rosso Appassimento (ECO) 75 cl.

The Montepulciano d’Abruzzo grapes for this wine are sourced in the Abruzzo mountains, in the middle of the Gran Sasso and Maiella national parks, where the Valle Reale vineyards are cultivated organically. In the “appassimento” technique, whole bunches are dried for several weeks on mats or boxes, immediately after picking, where the best grapes are selected. Both Greeks and Romans already used the technique, but in the Abruzzo mountains, in the old days, “appassimento” was often used more out of necessity than desire, as due to the cool climate it was difficult to ripen the grapes optimally. The drying of the grapes (then hanging on the vine) was a great way to “force ripen” the grapes and increase the sugar concentration. Today, the technique is used to give the wine more body, velvet and complexity. 30% of the wine is matured for 3 months in wooden barrels and 70% in steel tanks.

Passi Reali has a very dark, glossy, red color and a spicy, deep, complex aroma with notes of dark cherries, plums and blackberries. The taste is very meaty and concentrated, with good velor and fruity notes of pickled, dark berries. At the same time, you find a good bite and a fine tannin in the wine, which ends very harmoniously with spicy notes of dark chocolate, almonds and licorice. A very complex and at the same time charming wine that will go well with beef, lamb, duck and vegetable dishes.

Passione Natura is a collaboration between the winery Valle Reale in Abruzzo and a local cooperative (Biovitis). They specialize in so-called responsible viticulture, and together they have selected vineyards in central Italy (with great quality potential) with a view to producing organic and biodynamic wines. The goal is also to produce wines that express the typicality of the districts and that are produced with respect for the environment and the health of the consumer.
