A blended Tawny made from extremely old and specially selected wines from Kopke’s lodge with a completely unusual complexity. The concentrated expression has arisen through the evaporation that is a self-described part of years of barrel storage.
The color is mahogany with greenish shades and with great intensity. In the scent, the acid is immediately felt with ripe fruit, rancio and oxidation aromas, which give memories of pharmacy, camphor and herbs! The volatile acid gives an ingenious complexity in an ultra-long finale, which appears drier than younger port wines, as with age they lose some of the sweetness and also get more counterplay from the acid.
A wine which with its great age character is completely its own and sweeps away all one’s expectations of easy-to-understand port wine!
If you are looking for juicy primary fruit, you should stay far away, because this is not cheap port wine, but if you like stored tertiary aromas, then this is heavenly elixir, which should be enjoyed without food, in carefully selected company and preferably with a Chesterfield sofa as the only accessory.
