Percheron – Chenin Blanc-Viognier 75 cl.

Western Cape – South Africa

The wine is a blend of Chenin Blanc and Viognier. An excellent duo where Viognier softens the fresh acidity of the Chenin grape. Very aromatic with sensations of pear, passion fruit and white flowers. The wine is both full-bodied and fresh at the same time, i.e. with good richness and citrus notes in the aftertaste. A charming and wide-ranging white wine that can do it all.

The must undergoes alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine is not stored in oak casks, as maximum freshness is desired for the fruit.

The Percheron gets its name from the large, heavy workhorse and is actually experiencing a bit of a renaissance in South Africa today – it weighs much less than a tractor and is therefore less harmful in the field. Percheron was born out of Winemaker Marinda Kruger-van Eck’s love for old grape varieties because they ensure the best grapes. The grapes are picked from more than 80-year-old vines, and only traditional production techniques are used. The renowned English wine journalist Jancis Robertson has listed Percheron among his “best value wines” and adds that the wine delivers far more than what can be expected from the price. This creates demand, which is why we are only allocated Percheron in limited quantities.
