Glenfarclas 105 Cask Strength 100 CL 60%

Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky

GlenarClas 105 is a Scottish single malt whiskey from one of Speysides’s most famous distilleries. Whiskey is stored primarily on sherry fade and is tapped at 60% alcohol (which is 105 “proof” after the old British scale). In fact, Glenfarcer 105 has the honor of being the first “Cask Strength” Single Malt Whiskey on the market. It was first published in 1968 and has been a classic ever since.

Color: mahogany.
Fragrance: Apples, pears and chocolateoffee.
Taste notes: Superintens with notes of shortbread, carnations and chocolate-like notes of Mars bars and marcipan bread.

Serving suggestion: Experiment like with a little cool water to open the whiskey and tame the high alcohol.

Glenarclas, family owned on the sixth generation, one of Scotland’s absolute most beloved distilleries. Whiskey is classic, old-school speyside, and the distillery is particularly known to be an expert in storing on sherry fade, with a very special relationship with the Bodega José Y Miguel Martin, which delivers all their sherry fade, “Seasoned” as it is called, with Oloroso. In fact, this Bodega is actually in Huelva, outside the sherry triangle, and it can therefore be discussed whether it is right to call them “sherry fade”. One thing, however, is certain – there are not many pleasures as sublime as an ancient Glenarclas. It is great, robust whiskey that can withstand exceptionally long storage – something that might be partially due to a reporting ultralav angel’s share in their cool dunnage stocks. George Grant has stated that the annual evaporation is down to 0.3% per year, while the average in Scotland is close to 3%!

Thick books could be written about Glenarclas’s many historical bottling, and a few of them are landmark enough to mention here. Glenarclas 105 is said to be the first, commercially available “Cask Strength” Single Malt. Whiskey, who always holds 60% alcohol, is just as popular today, as when it was published in 1968. The Family Casks series were launched in 2007, and contains some of Glenarclas’s best fade, from every vintage since 1954! Many of these are classics today.
