Le Pere Jules – Cidre de Normandie Brut 75 CL 5%

Le Pere Jules – France

Le Pere Jules is best known for its beautiful Calvados, but the plantations in the Pays d’Auge are also the origin of the dry apple cider, Cidre de Normandie. 20 different apple varieties are included in the blend to find the optimal balance between sweetness, acidity and dry matter. The fine mousse is developed through a secondary fermentation in the bottle – almost like Champagne.

Colour: Beautiful golden.
Aroma: Lively scent of oranges, ripe apples, yeast and roasted nuts.
Tasting notes: Medium body, perfect balance between sweetness and acidity and beautiful notes of apples and citrus.

Serving suggestions: Enjoy chilled, e.g. as an alternative to Champagne.

The year is 1919 and Jules Desfrieches, just returned from the First World War, begins to produce and sell cider for the first time. In 1923 he distilled his first Calvados. In 1949, the son, Léon Desfrieches, took over the business and named it Le Père Jules. Léon’s son, Thierry, took part in the family business in 1976. Guillaume, Thierry’s son, in 2002. To this day, Guillaume manages the production and Le Pére Jules only works with apples and pears from their own orchard. The plot covers an area of 100 hectares and just under half of the area is planted with apple trees, while a tenth is planted with pear trees. They follow ecological principles and, for example, let their 100 cows roam freely on the grounds and naturally fertilize the plantation rather than using artificial fertilizers
