Fundador is one of the sherry triangle’s most famous brandies. The name means something like “founder” – and it is well chosen, because when it was launched back in the 1870s by Pedro Domecq, it was probably the first spirit with the title “Brandy de Jerez”. It is made from airén and palomino grapes, and is distilled in column stills before being aged in old sherry casks.
The founder Sherry Cask, is a Brandy Solera of the specific designation Brandy de Jerez. It is made from highly selected wines for distillation in columns (apparatus for continuous distillation), obtaining spirits of the highest quality from them. These are carefully aged in 500-litre oak casks previously packed with the choicest Jerez wines using the traditional dynamic system of Soleras and Criaderas.
Fundador Sherry Cask is the sublime combination of spirits and distillates and the contribution of wine that Sherry Casks give during their aging, making Fundador Solera Sherry Cask a unique brandy in style, harmony and elegance.
flavor note
At sight, its very light amber color stands out. On the nose it is a very complex and balanced brandy, with notes of precious wood and vinosity from the casks used in its aging. On the palate it is harmonious, soft and vinous. It is a remarkable brandy with a pleasant persistence.
Pedro Domecq was officially founded in 1822. They were the first producer of brandy in Jerez, and in fact brandy is also the last thing left of Pedro Domecq today. Although they made fantastic sherry for a number of years, the company’s wine side has been sold off several times, and when the house’s wine activities definitively succumbed, the parent company, Beam Global, sold their old solera systems (which Domecq himself had bought from even older companies). Osborne were quick to intercept these treasures and it is now under their banner that the legendary wines; 51-1a, Capuchino, Sibarita and Venerable, are bottled.
