Malecon Rare Proof 13 Year Old is a molasses Rome from Panama, distilled in 2006 in a continuous column. The brand creator, Marco Savio, got the Cuban Maestro Ronero Francisco Fernandez to collect a small series of dishes. These had it special by containing particularly concentrated ROM, prepared by a slower distillation than normal.
The term RARE proof is also important for this vintage. It is rare to find traditional Latin Rome with such a high degree of bottling.
On the nose we discover a pleasant caramel with something tropical, exotic, slightly humid and delicious. It is adorned with a vegetable and rather fat envelope, like a cigar blade. The sweet spices are perfect at home in this brown and greedy atmosphere.
The aeration emphasizes the roasting with aromas of sweet coffee, roasted and caramelized nuts. A more vegetable and aromatic character sparkles in the heart of the room, giving it a solid backbone.
The taste is warm and quite sweet, with a rom that puts themselves quiet on the taste buds. It is accompanied by a good snatch of sweet spices, and in particular a dull vanilla, quite dark and bold. The coffee and greater roasting are good present, but also expressed with a certain roundness.
The end is soft caramelized, and which on the nose extended with a touch of more concentrated aromas and even a touch of salt.
“A gourmand and toasted Rome, discreetly supported by slightly more full aromas …”
