Ratzenberger Steeger St. Jost Riesling Grosses Gewächs 2019 75 CL

Mittelrhein – Germany

Weingut Ratzenberger grows Riesling on fatally steep, south-facing plots covered with Devonian slate, where, among other things, St. The Jost field rises dramatically between Steeg and Bacharach.

The 2019 GG is excellent at Ratzenberger, who in the Mittelrhein has amazingly managed to keep 12.5% alcohol in the wine, so that it appears drinkable without sacrificing intensity.
Ratzenberger has exemplary managed to use the phenolic ripeness of the grapes for a gentle maceration/skin contact without extracting too heavy, oily aromas. A good acid level keeps the whole package in balance, so everything is very good.

Aroma and taste are dominated by intense citrus, white flowers with pronounced salty minerals and underneath a layer of white peach, which gives width and fullness to the wine without making it heavy. The wine is effortlessly dry and very full-bodied with a kilometer-long aftertaste.

Serve well-tempered, which in this case is 9-13°.

Feel free to enjoy the wine from spacious wine glasses. Drink it now in greedy sips or forget it for up to 15 years in a good cellar.

“Jochen R. has committed an otherworldly beautiful version of St. Jost in 2019, no less. Wonderfully tantalizing balance. Crystal clear and juicy to the brim. Full of pomelo, tangerine, light caramel, fir shoots and flintstone. Lively acidity, rich in extract, fruit ohne Ende. Magnificent wine.”
