Laphroaig 25 Years 2013 Cask Strength 70 cl. 45,1%
Limited Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Laphroaig is the largest of the three heavyweight Islay distilleries in Kildalton, exceeding the production capacity of neighbors Ardbeg and Lagavulin by over 1 million liters a year. Despite its traditional appearance, Laphroaig was always a forward-thinking distillery. It was bottled as a single malt as early as the 1920s, an unfashionable option at the time, especially for a peated whisky. They were also shrewd in taking advantage of the post-Prohibition US to add trademark sweetness to their spirit through the use of imported ex-bourbon casks, hiring Scotland’s first ever female distillery manager, Bessie Williamson, in 1954. Laphroaig is one of only a handful of distilleries in Scotland to still use in-house malting, providing them with 20% of their annual needs and contributing to the distillery’s unique flavor profile.
This 25-year-old malt from Islay’s popular Laphroaig distillery is a remarkable combination of whiskeys that have been aged in Oloroso sherry casks and American ex-bourbon casks. 2013 Edition
