La Closerie de Camensac Haut-Médoc 2017 75 cl.
Grand Vin de Bordeaux – France
This is the 2nd wine for Château Camensac, 5th Cru Classé, which has shown great progress in form within the last decade. The Merlaut family (owners include Gruaud Larose) have made massive investments in the purchase and replanting of fields, production facilities and, not least, a fruitful collaboration with consulting star oenologist, Eric Boissenot. This has resulted in far better wines that are again worthy of their distinguished classification.
The fields are located in Haut-Médoc towards the south-western corner of St. Julien with Ch. Lagrange and Ch. La Tour-Carnet as nearest neighbours. A majority of the now 86 hectares of fields are planted with more than 10,000 vines per hectare. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are grown on the alluvial gravel, which appear 50/50 in this wine.
La Closerie de Camensac 2017 is fermented for a week in steel at 28° and then macerated for a further three weeks, before a gentle, pneumatic pressing and subsequent aging for 12 months in barriques, of which 10% are new.
The wine appears young but harmonious with a mixture of dense, dark fruit and red, ripe currants with discreet notes of quality oak. There is both good intensity and a firm tannin structure in the wine.
The latter will be released around 2027-2029, if you want a more ripe fruit and a seamless drinking experience.
