Deep purple color, with intense flowers and perfumed top notes of rose petals, followed by aromas of strawberry, mulberry and hints of oak spice. The middle of the palate is filled with plush flavors of red fruits, plums and chocolate. Seamlessly integrated oak and velvety tannins add great support and structure.
Opaque purple ruby color. Intense floral perfume nose of dark rose petals, with layers of strawberry, red fruit, hints of sweet spice. The taste is packed with red fruit, black plums and chocolate. The beautifully integrated oak plays a major supporting role. Powerful but elegant tannins. The mouth fills without being heavy. The seamless finish rounds off this complex, powerful yet elegant wine.
The fermentation took place in open concrete fermentation vessels. The cap was knocked down manually every 2 hours and the juice was extracted from the skin after 3.5 days.
18 months in 100% new 225L French Nevers oak barrels.

The name Kanonkop was derived from a kopje (hill) from which a cannon was fired in the 17th century to warn outlying farmers that sailing ships plying the waters between Europe and the Far East had entered Table Bay to stop at Cape Town.
