Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey Sauternes 2019 75 CL

Grand Premier Cru Classé de Bordeaux

Classic Sauternes with historical roots.

Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey 2019 reveals complex and elegant aromas. The nose shows a candied character, dominated by notes of citrus marmalade and citrus peel. On the palate, Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey 2019 is rich and gourmet, ending in a tasty and refreshing finish.

If we rewind time 150 years, there were three Sauternes producers who made a name for themselves with particularly fine wines. It was La Tour Blanche, it was d’Yquem and it was Lafaurie Peyraguey. That was the way it was, and you couldn’t really question that. It testifies to the history and tradition this producer has to live up to, because in the 19th century, not many could talk about Sauternes without Lafaire Peyraguey being part of the conversation.

In 1917, however, the winery was left in a bit of an identity crisis, and it didn’t really manage to live up to its great reputation until Michel Laporet was hired as helmsman in the 70s. He thoroughly shook up the methods and production philosophies that had brought Lafaurie Peyraguey on an involuntary wobble course, and after a number of years we must now conclude that he was successful with his changes. Today, 90% of the vineyard’s vines are of the Semillon type, while 5% are Sauvignon Blanc and 5% are Muscadelle.

Today, Chateau Lafaurie Peyraguey is once again among the Sauternes producers with the strongest name, and production at the farm in the Bordeaux commune of Bommes is now managed by Societe Foncier des Domaines Cordier, which also owns Chateau Meyney in St-Estephe and Clos des Jacobins in St. Emilion.

About Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey
World famous, bold and amazing! Ancient Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey has roots dating back to the Middle Ages, when the castle’s large tower was used to keep an eye on enemies in times of war, located on a hill just outside the village of Bommes. In fact, part of the property was a Roman outpost. Today, warlike considerations are fortunately redundant and the Cordier family creates world-class wines – nothing less. Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey is generally considered the best in the Sauternes region. The style is very bold from the extra long aging in brand new oak casks. Fame really took off at the 1855 classification, famous in wine circles, where the house’s sweet wine was awarded second place as Premier Cru.
