Italian Classic Herb Liqueur

Liquore Strega is probably Italy’s oldest and most famous liqueur. The original recipe with the correct mixing ratios has gone in heritage from generation to generation. Over 70 different aromas from herbs around the whole world are part of the recipe. For example. used the following herbs; Cinnamon from Ceylon, pepper from Jamaica and juniper from the Appenines mountains. After soaking the many herbs are distilled the mixtur. The distillate is reduced down to 40%, with sugar, syrup and a small bit of saffron, which gives the liqueur the clear, yellow color. Finally, the distillate is stored on large woods.

It can be served with ice cubes, to ice and fruit deers or above the dessert itself.

The small southern Italian city of Benevento, who has belonged to the Vatican in Rome, was, according to an old legend, venue for witches around the world. In 1860, Giuseppe Alberti founded his company in the city and took over a secret recipe from the local monastery, which he in cooperation with his father further developed. We knowing about the legend they chose to call their product for Liquore Strega, who in Italian means hex matter.
