Quinta do Portal – Quinta dos Muros Vintage Porto 2016 75 CL 20%

Douro Valley Port – Portugal

Quinta dos Muros is located with perfect exposure in the eastern part of the Pinhão Valley, undoubtedly one of the Douro’s best terroirs.
The property’s deadly steep slate patamares yield small, thick-skinned touriga nacional, touriga franca and tinta roríz grapes perfectly suited to the production of vintage port.

2016 is one of the decade’s many super vintages, which still appears embryonic via a manly structure, but the tannins are healthy and mature, so if you have the time, the patient will be rewarded with a terrific vintage port.

Aroma and taste have dramatic berry fruit with elder, blackcurrant and blackberry, wrapped in firm tannins that keep the sweetness in check. The aftertaste is long and without the puppyish sweetness that often accompanies young vintages.

We recommend opening the wine after 2030.

Serving temperature should be around 14-18°.

You can always start on the cool side and let the wine warm a little if you are not satisfied.

Vintage port wines are bottled without filtration, and decanting is therefore mandatory if you want to have a good experience with the wine. This is done in good time before serving, so that face is not lost in front of the guests if the pressure becomes too great and the bottle as well as the dispenser is shaken during the session…
If you have a steady hand, experience and self-confidence in order, you can disregard the above well-intentioned advice and instead gain due respect from the lodge sisters M/K.
