Louis Jadot – Couvent des Jacobins Bourgogne Rouge Pinot Noir 2022 75 cl.

Beaune – France

The actual production area for this wine is pretty much all of Burgundy. The cuvée comes from a balanced blend from the Côte d’Or, including Hautes Côtes de Beaune and Hautes Côtes de Nuits, Côtes Chalonnaise (Mercurey) and Auxerrois (Irancy). The wine appears quite complex, precisely because of the blend from the many different areas. From the Côte de Nuits it will typically have its slender structure and tannin, from the Hautes Côtes it gets rich fruit and freshness. The wine is aged partly in steel tanks – partly in oak barrels for 9-16 months, depending on the vintage. It is very typical Pinot Noir, in the style lots of red fruit (raspberries, strawberries, currants) in the wine’s youth, which will develop into more complex and secondary aromas over time.

Louis Jadot is among Burgundy’s most historic and prestigious wine producers for both white and red wines. Louis Henri Denis Jadot came to Beaune from Belgium at the end of the 18th century, and bought a number of vineyards, e.g. the legendary monopoly field “Beaune 1. Cru Clos des Ursules”, which to this day is a signature wine of the house. Maison Louis Jadot was established in 1859. The winery has a total of 150 hectares of vineyards, of which 70 hectares are in the Côte d’Or. Today, some mistakenly regard Louis Jadot as a businessman who buys grapes from local winegrowers, but up to 70% of the wines come from the house’s own fields. The fact that Louis Jadot is today one of the most well-regarded wine houses in Burgundy must be largely attributed to the fact that the distinguished and praised wines since 1970 have been created and profiled by the legendary and charismatic winemaker Jacques Lardière. He retired in 2012 and left the position to Frédéric Barnier, who, with great respect for Lardière’s work, has taken up the legacy and the task. The fact that all wines are produced at an extremely high level has resulted, among other things, in Louis Jadot’s wines being represented in 19 out of France’s 27 three-star Michelin restaurants.
