Red Sweet Italian Sparkling Wine – Scanvino
The distinctive Brachetto grape is known in both Piedmont and southern France, but here from Piedmont around the city of Acqui in northwestern Italy, the grape delivers plenty of fruit sweetness in a red, softly bubbling dessert wine that evokes summers with memories of strawberries, raspberries and lots of summer fruit with a touch of pepper spice that adds complexity.
A bit popular, you could call it a red variant of Muscat / Moscato – maybe not 100% accurate, but it facilitates understanding!
Made with very long, cool fermentation using the charmat method, you get a wine with fine, not overbearing bubbles and a good complexity.
Brachetto is the ideal wine for fresh strawberries, raspberries or melon pieces if the wine is chilled and young. Also as a welcome drink, the wine is well chosen, as the rich fruit and sweetness sharpens the appetite and the senses with a wine that has a moderate alcohol content of 6%.
Enjoyed directly from the bottom of the refrigerator.
