Ken Forrester The Renegade is a seminal South African red that blends Old-World Rhône elegance with vibrant New-World fruit expression. This flagship wine is crafted from a carefully selected Rhône-style blend of Shiraz, Mourvèdre, and Grenache, grown on the granite-rich slopes of the Helderberg in Stellenbosch.
Hand-harvested and fermented with open‑tank maceration, the wine is then aged for approximately 18 months in French oak barrels. This traditional technique enhances its structure and imbues the Renegade with nuanced spice, earthiness, and complex tannins.
On the nose, expect a layered bouquet of dark red and black fruits—like blackberry, blackcurrant, and plum—interwoven with cedar, mocha, nutmeg, and subtle herbal and saline notes. The palate is smooth and plush, with concentrated fruit, integrated tannins, lively acidity, and a lingering spiced finish.
The Renegade pairs beautifully with grilled meats, hearty stews, and aged cheeses. Serve at 16–18 °C for optimal enjoyment.
Ken Forrester, a pioneer of premium Chenin Blanc, planted his Stellenbosch estate in 1994 and quickly became known for bold, terroir-driven wines. The Renegade was among South Africa’s first Rhône-style blends and remains a showcase of his passion for authenticity and craftsmanship.
