Dalrymple Cave Block Chardonnay 2021 is crafted using a combination of traditional and modern techniques. The grapes undergo a gentle whole-cluster pressing to extract the purest juice. Fermentation takes place in French oak barrels, with a portion of the wine also undergoing malolactic fermentation. This process enhances the wine’s rich and creamy texture while preserving its natural acidity. The wine is aged for several months on its lees, adding extra depth and complexity to the flavor.
Dalrymple Cave Block Chardonnay 2021 – A Masterpiece from Tasmania
Located in the Pipers River region, Dalrymple is renowned for its premium cool-climate wines. The Cave Block Chardonnay 2021 reflects both the unique character of its terroir and the winery’s meticulous vineyard practices. The wine originates from the pristine landscapes of Tasmania, south of Australia’s mainland. The grapes are exclusively sourced from the Cave Block vineyard, which benefits from a cool, maritime climate. This coastal influence imparts a distinctive minerality and vibrant acidity to the wine. The combination of volcanic soil, moderate temperatures, and ample sunlight creates optimal conditions for growing world-class Chardonnay grapes.
The 2021 vintage experienced an exceptional growing season with mild temperatures and steady rainfall. This allowed the grapes to ripen slowly, developing complex flavors. With a focus on sustainability and minimal intervention, the grapes are handpicked at the perfect moment to preserve their natural character. A superb example of Tasmania’s cool climate and the unique terroir of Dalrymple Cave Block. Award-winning and recognized both nationally and internationally for its quality and finesse. Best served at 8-10°C.
About Dalrymple Vineyards
Australian winery Dalrymple Vineyards was founded in 1987 by Bertel and Anne Sundstrup in northeastern Tasmania. The couple “discovered” the area after a long search for the perfect place to produce wine. They planted their first vines overlooking Bass Strait, the body of water that separates Tasmania from the Australian mainland. The winery is located in the renowned Pipers River wine region, surrounded by rich, diverse nature and rolling hills and valleys.
Exceptional Wine from Tasmania
Since its founding, Dalrymple has gained significant recognition and praise as a prime example of the true potential of cool-climate winemaking in Australia. Tasmania is cooler than the rest of the country, making it particularly well-suited for growing different grape varieties. This is largely due to the influence of Bass Strait, which sends cooling breezes over the island, creating ideal conditions for grapes such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Dalrymple’s production remains small, with only 12.3 hectares of vineyards. This allows the winery’s winemaker, Peter Caldwell, to devote great attention and care to the few wines Dalrymple produces.
