Charisma is made from 100% Trebbiano d’Abruzzo grapes, grown biodynamically in vineyards located at 440 meters above sea level. At this altitude, the temperatures are more moderate, and the resulting longer ripening period gives fresh, crisp, and aromatic wines with good structure.
After a gentle pressing of the grapes and a short skin maceration, fermentation takes place at a cool temperature (12–14°C) in stainless steel tanks for about 30 days – using only the grapes’ natural yeasts. The wine is then aged on its lees in stainless steel tanks for 6 months before being bottled unfiltered.
Charisma shows a beautiful straw-yellow color. On the nose, the wine is dry, fresh, and crisp, with delicate notes of white flowers and herbs. The palate is full-bodied, fresh, and fruity, with a fine interplay of spicy and lightly saline notes.
Serve the wine at around 10°C with Mediterranean-inspired pasta and vegetable dishes, as well as with seafood and fish – particularly more exotic preparations. Also try it with poultry in light sauces or with sheep’s and goat’s cheeses.
Cantina Orsogna takes its name from the municipality of Orsogna, located in the province of Chieti in Abruzzo. With only 15 km to the Adriatic Sea on one side and 20 km to the Apennine mountains on the other, this area is a rare example of how quality agriculture can work in perfect harmony with a unique local nature – part of one of Europe’s best-preserved nature parks.
Cantina Orsogna is undoubtedly one of Italy’s most important producers of organic wine, and possibly the largest holder of biodynamically cultivated vineyards. The cooperative was founded by local farmers in 1964 and today manages more than 1,100 hectares of vineyards, at least 80% of which are organically farmed. This forms the basis for creating organic wines on several levels – from affordable “entry-level” wines to high-quality single-vineyard wines.
At Orsogna, the main red varieties grown are Montepulciano d’Abruzzo (50%), Trebbiano, and Sangiovese, as well as the local white varieties Pecorino and Cococciola.
