Caol Ila, the largest distillery on the island of Islay, with an expansion completed in 2011, has the capacity to produce 6.5 million liters of distillate per year, which is the combined capacity of Laphroaig, Bowmore and Ardbeg.
Sales of the brand remain at the level of 600,000. bottles per year, far behind the most popular island whisky, Laphroaig (almost 4 million bottles).
Caol Ila has always enjoyed the attention of independent publishers, which undoubtedly contributes to the growth of her popularity. The whiskey presented here was distilled on 12 October 2010, initially aged in refill casks and finished in fresh sherry butt casks (No. 107) for 15 months. Bottled by Signatory Vintage on the Cask Strength Collection on 22 April 2022 in an edition of 684 bottles.
Nose: sherry and sea breeze, peat smoke, caramel, black cherries, blood oranges, raisins, smoked bacon, leather, tobacco and hints of burnt rubber.
Taste: Peat smoke, sherry, vanilla cream, salted caramel, milk chocolate, bitter orange marmalade, blackberries, raisins, white pepper and hints of pipe tobacco.
Aftertaste: long, with notes of peat smoke, raisins, orange peel, nougat, salted caramel, white pepper, tobacco and oak.
