Black Tot Rum 70 CL 46,2%

Blended Premium Aged Rum

Black Tot Finest Caribbean is a blend of rums from various Caribbean islands, naturally inspired by the rum that was served on board the British fleet until 1970. Black Tot is carefully composed by master blender Oliver Chilton, who has arrived at a blend of 40% 3-5 year old rum from Guyana, 20% unaged Guyana rum, 35% 5 year old Barbados rum, and 5% 3 year old jamaicarom. All the rum is 100% tropically aged in ex-bourbon casks. It is bottled without chill filtration at 46.2% and without added sugar. Splice the mainbrace!

Colour: Golden.
Aroma: Complex aroma of flambéed bananas, grilled meat, coffee, sourdough rye bread, light raisins and coconut.
Tasting notes: In the mouth, the rum starts off sweet and soft, but with plenty of flavor – including licorice, coffee, ginger and cardamom.

The name Black Tot evokes a special feeling in history-obsessed rum fans. The name comes from the fateful Black Tot Day – 31 July 1970 – which was the day the British Navy carried out for the last time the centuries-old tradition of daily servings of rum. By this time it had dawned on the majority that a daily serving of 7 cl of strong rum (54.5%) was incompatible with nuclear submarines and missiles, and from then on the fleet’s remaining stock of rum was filled into stoneware flasks and stored, only for use on special occasions such as royal weddings or diplomatic events. And so the navy rum was more or less forgotten for decades, until Sukhinder Singh of Elixir Distillers got his hands on a few of the original bottles of the real navy rum from before 1970. This ultra-rare fluid was bottled under the name Black Tot, and most recently Sukhinder and the team behind Elixir Distillers also created a modern blend, inspired by the old, original rum.
