J. S. RASCH VIN & SPIRITUS
J. S. Rasch Wine and Colonial Goods has been selling life’s finer things since 1807. The current ownership goes back two generations.

Château la Fleur des Rouzes is well situated at the ‘expensive’ northern end of the Pomerol plateau, where the soil has a high content of clay, mixed with gravel, limestone and iron. With its 2.8 hectares, it is one of the smaller producers in Pomerol, which in itself is quite a small district with its modest approx. 800 hectares. As is customary here, the wine consists mainly of merlot (80%) with additions of cabernet franc (15%) and cabernet sauvignon (5%).
The vinification takes place in concrete, while for the storage, which lasts 14-18 months, 225 liter oak barrels are used, of which 1/4 is replaced annually.
Aroma and taste exhibit a youthful core of red and dark berries with subtle nuances of dark chocolate. The taste is elegant and full and the aftertaste is both persistent and balanced.
It’s no crime to board La Fleur des Rouzes now, but this is wine that for the next approx. 10 years will get better and better. The firmness from the tannins diminishes over time and the gentler structure and fullness that Pomerol is famous for emerges.
Enjoy at a temperature of approx. 17-18° of spacious glasses for a classic (but not boring!) roast without heavy accessories, preferably lamb or cow.
With a little more aging, it will be lovely with game with mushrooms and a wine-based sauce.
