Atamán Vermut from Barbadillo is a vermouth that’s a little out of the ordinary. The historic Atamán brand—mysteriously named after a Russian military leader—was first registered in 1943. In 2017 it was relaunched as a small range of very special products, including a vermouth based on Manzanilla sherry, inspired by Barbadillo’s stocks of very old vermouth still resting in their warehouses. Key botanicals include bitter orange, wormwood, cassia bark, rosemary and elderberries.
Colour: Dark, reddish mahogany. Nose: Deep, dark aromas of orange oils, wormwood, cacao nibs and sherry. Tasting notes: Intense, spicy and complex, with plenty of power and a lightly bitter finish.
