While many may think that drying is the domain’s domain, so peat has actually been a popular fuel in the Irish Kilns for many years until it was replaced by coal, and the taste of changed character. Blackpitts are teelings first smoked single malt whiskey distilled in Dublin! The name “Blackpitts” is taken from an area, which is almost behind the distillery. Here, in the old days, a large number of malteries, several of them among Ireland’s largest.
The whiskey is stored on ex-bourbon dishes, while some also have been on Sauternes-Fade, giving a nice honeycomb to the smoke. It is tapped at 46% alcohol.
Color: Golden.
Fragrance: Barbeque smoke, mature bulb irrigated with honey, orange marmalade, caramel and allspapers.
Taste notes: Beautiful fruity taste, filled with pineapple, pear and apricot, but also spicy notes, lots of wood, salt caramel and lovely smoke.
Serving suggestions: should be enjoyed clean, possibly. with a drop of cool water.
The Teeling family has been making Irish whiskey since 1782, when Walter Teeling opened his whiskey distillery on Marrowbone Lane in Dublin. Dublin has traditionally been the heart of Ireland’s whiskey production. The history of Ireland’s whiskey production is incredibly exciting and dramatic and is largely connected to the country’s relationship with England, for better or for worse. As many as 37 distilleries had smoke in their chimneys at the beginning of the 20th century, but one by one the distilleries closed and since 1976 no whiskey has been distilled in Dublin – until now! The Teeling Whiskey Distillery is the first newly opened distillery in Dublin in over 125 years and the Teeling family see it as their mission to bring the art of distilling back to the heart of Dublin!
The tasty whiskey comes from 3 shiny pot stills, which are named after Jack Teeling’s 3 daughters. 25% of production is dedicated to whiskey of an experimental nature, making Teeling one of the most exciting distilleries to keep an eye on in the future.
