Zuidam Oude Genever 1 Jaar Vat Gelagerd 50 cl. 38%
Dutch Aged Genever – Zuidam Distillers
A beautiful old Genever of 1 year made by Zuidam Distillers from the Netherlands. The long distillation process produces a concentrated distillate with plenty of spice and finesse. The distillate is aged in new American oak. This creates a spicy aroma and a delicate genever combined with rich notes of vanilla and toffee.
Zuidam Zeer Oude Genever comes from Barde-Nassau in the Netherlands. The genever is of the “Oude” type, which means that it gets its deep, malty flavor from the high content of moutwijn (minimum 15%): a pot still distillation of 3 different types of grain; the backbone is barley malt, while one-third corn gives a nice sweetness and one-third rye contributes slightly spicy and herbal notes. After distillation, the genever is stored for a minimum of 1 year in both new and used American oak casks, and finally bottled at 38% alcohol.
Colour: Pale golden.
Smell: Soft aromas of juniper, vanilla and oak.
Tasting notes: The taste is fruity and rich, with toffee, green juniper berries and white pepper.
Serving suggestion: Should be enjoyed neat.
Zuidam Distillers was started in 1975 by Fred van Zuidam. At the time, the distillery only had one small pot still and approximately 300 square meters to work on. After 10 years of hard work, Zuidam had cultivated a reputation as Holland’s finest distillery, but things only really took off when Fred got his wife, Helene, to design the bottles. Today, Zuidam is still one of Holland’s most respected distilleries, with more than a thousand casks in stock and 4 new copper pot stills shining in their 3600 square meter distillery. However, the goal is still the same: to make products of the highest possible quality with craftsmanship at the fore. The portfolio includes, among other things, gin, single malt whisky, genever, liqueurs and rum.
