Tequila Tapatío Excelencia Gran Reserva Extra Añejo 100 cl. 40%
Hecho En Mexico – Los Altos
Tapatío Excelencia Gran Reserva is Tapatío’s oldest tequila. With its 4 years in first-fill casks of “deep charred” (charred) American oak, it is classified as an “extra añejo”, and during storage it has acquired great complexity, fullness and spicy cask notes, which of course are in perfect balance with the agave notes you will not want to be without in a tequila of 100% agave.
Colour: Mahogany.
Aroma: Very concentrated aroma of maple syrup, apple pie, cinnamon and caramel.
Tasting notes: Dark and rich taste with chocolate cake, brown sugar, cloves and walnuts.
Serving suggestion: Should be enjoyed neat, like a good cognac or whiskey.
Tapatio is produced at La Alteña in the highlands of Los Altos near the town of Arandas in Mexico. The distillery was founded by Don Felipe Camarena in 1937, some time after the family’s original distillery burned down during the Mexican Revolution. Today it is Carlos Camarena who can call himself the master distiller at La Alteña, where he also produces famous brands such as Ocho, El Tesoro and Excellia.
Tapatio is made from 100% agave which is baked in stone ovens before the juice is squeezed out of the fibres. The juice is fermented exclusively with naturally occurring yeast in vessels made of oak and pine before it is distilled in steel and copper kettles. Some varieties – reposado, añejo and extra añejo – age in American oak casks before bottling, while the blanco simply rests for a while in stainless steel tanks.
