Talisker 11 Years The Wild Explorador Special Release 2023 70 cl. 59,7%
Single Malt Scotch Whisky
A golden-sweet glow burns through a stream of smoke with a splash of sea salt in its wake.
Finished in a combination of Ruby, White and Tawny Port casks.
A wave of heat rises through the flow, radiating a sweet, charred undertone. The impact of sea salt spray against the bow of the ship reignites the fire of exploration in determined sailors. Against an unforgiving sea, the caravel, an iconic Portuguese sea vessel, hurries on, braving harsh elements to reach the farthest corners of the earth.
Exploring the harmony between grace and power, our Master Malt pays tribute to the Portuguese origins of these great seafaring ships by finishing this superb maritime whiskey in a combination of Ruby, White and Tawny Port. This unusual combination of casks rekindles our own passion for exploration and brings an eerie balance to a tumultuous Talisker.
Rich, clear gold ignites the fire of desire, while clear maritime notes of sea air carry hints of oyster shell, salt and sand dunes on a spicy and peaty base. Through them come rich, sweet hints of white grape, dark fruit and dry tannin. In the mouth, these characters merge into a creamy-smooth rich fruity flavor, with waves of salt, smoke and spice breaking through the intense finish.
Tasting notes
Nose
Soft and drying, with a hint of spice as it settles. The top notes are of sticky malt bread with sultanas and dates as dried fruits lead the way which soon fades to become more maritime with clean sea air, sea salt and sand dunes. Through this come mineral notes of chalk and a light, winey hint of soaked grape skins. At first there is just a hint of peat smoke running underneath, although the aroma becomes much more smoky when water is added.
Palate
A creamy-smooth mouthfeel introduces a powerful flavor with slightly sweet notes and hints of rich fruit. This quickly becomes very salty, then intensely peppery and gunpowder-smoky. The taste is almost as strong with a good splash of water, which accentuates the saltiness.
Exit
Long, spicy finish with the trademark catch of chili pepper, which here tends towards mouth-cooling Sichuan pepper.
