Distilleria Strega, Liquore Sambuca
The small southern Italian town of Benevento, which once belonged to the Vatican in Rome, was, according to an old legend, a meeting place for witches around the world. In 1860, the town also became a “meeting place” for Giuseppe Alberti, in that he founded his company here. Giuseppe Alberti took over a secret recipe from the local monastery, which he developed further in collaboration with his father. Aware of the legend, they chose to call their product Liquore Strega, which in Italian means witch liqueur.
In addition to producing Liquore Strega, Distilleria Strega also produces other liqueurs, e.g. Amaretto and Sambuca, as well as Grappa.
