Schola Sarmenti – Diciotto +1 Primitivo 75 cl. 19%

Puglia – Italy

Schola Sarmenti Diciotto +1 Primitivo is a powerful yet elegant wine from Salento in Apulia. Made from 100 % Primitivo grapes grown on approximately 85-year-old vines, cultivated using the traditional Alberello Pugliese method. The grapes are hand-harvested, and the wine is aged for 14 months in medium-toasted French oak tonneaux, followed by further bottle ageing for perfect balance.
It shows a deep ruby red colour with garnet highlights. The bouquet is complex and generous, offering aromas of amarena cherries, plum compote, raisins, blueberries, blackcurrants, mulberries and strawberries. Notes of spices such as black pepper, cinnamon and clove intertwine with tertiary hints of liquorice, tobacco, coffee, leather and tar.

On the palate, it is full-bodied, warm and enveloping, with silky tannins, fresh acidity and an alcohol level of around 19 % that is beautifully balanced by fruit and structure. The finish is long, complex and with remarkable ageing potential.

Despite its intensity, Diciotto +1 is surprisingly versatile with food. It pairs wonderfully with antipasti, pasta with rich ragù, baked fish, red meat, aged cheeses – and even tangy desserts. A true “super Primitivo” that combines strength, depth and elegance.
