The long-awaited Mister Fogg has finally docked in Denmark! This superb Caribbean blend is Planteray’s take on a classic navy rum. You probably know the story of the rum served in the British Royal Navy — and if not, you can read about it here.
The recipe is inspired by the original. 43% comes from Barbados, 36% from Trinidad, 17% from Guyana, and 4% from Jamaica, where Long Pond and Clarendon provide the final touch. It is first aged in bourbon casks in the respective countries of origin, and after a long sea voyage it is matured for up to 3 years in wooden vats — large open wooden tuns — in Cognac, France. Here, the spirit is exposed to more oxygen, echoing the traditional navy-rum blending methods of the past.
Bottled at a robust 55.7% ABV and dosed at 4.8 g/l sugar.
Colour: Amber.
Nose: A powerful burst of dried fruit, dark chocolate, vanilla and orange peel.
Palate: Rich and full-bodied with smoky nuances, molasses, caramel and ripe fruit. Long finish with a gentle sweetness.
Serving suggestion: Enjoy neat or in cocktails. Splice the mainbrace!
