Jamaican Rum – 100% Pot Still Rum – Maison Ferrand
Planteray Rum (formerly Plantation) is the rum house linked to Maison Ferrand in Cognac, operating as a modern rum house rather than a single distillery. They partner with producers across different rum regions, select distillates and casks, then shape a recognizable house style through blending and cask work. Many releases are deliberately bartender-friendly: aromatic, well-balanced, and built to shine in cocktails while still being enjoyable to sip.
Xaymaca Special Dry is Planteray’s core Jamaican expression and a tribute to classic Jamaican rum style. It’s made as a blend of pot-still rums from two well-known Jamaican distilleries, delivering that signature mix of fruity intensity and “funk” without turning sweet or heavy. “Special Dry” points to a dry, cocktail-driven profile designed for maximum aromatic impact in mixed drinks rather than relying on sweetness.
In the glass you’ll often find bold notes of very ripe tropical fruit (banana, pineapple), citrus peel, spice, and a gentle ester-driven funk that can read as fermented fruit and warm fruitcake. At the same time, the structure stays clean and dry, making it extremely versatile: aromatic enough to power a Daiquiri, yet straightforward enough for highballs and classic rum drinks where you want that Jamaican character to speak.
Serving and use
In cocktails: outstanding in Daiquiris, Mai Tais, Jungle Birds, and other tiki classics when you want Jamaican character.
As an upgrade: swap it into a Cuba Libre or Rum & Ginger for more depth and fruit.
Neat/with a little water: works well if you enjoy drier, ester-forward rum— a splash of water can open up the fruit.
