This version is a blend of various Clairins distilled in 2017 (Clairins Vaval, Sajous, Casimir and Le Rocher) and cane syrup rum from Distillerie de Portau-Prince (2018), aged in Caroni and Mount Gay rum casks, Buffalo Trace bourbon casks and even cognac casks.
Rum Papalin is one of Luca Gargano’s first creations, marketed in 2013 only in the best places specializing in the Spirit of the Caribbean.
Now the new edition of Papalin 2022 has arrived, composed of Haitian rums.
It is a Blended or Vatted of different types of rum created by Luca and collected according to the old traditional system, which has given us a limited edition of a few thousand bottles.
Papalin rum is perfect for beginners in Heavy rum as it is very pleasant to drink, Papalin is certainly interesting for experts precisely because of its great balance and good personality.
We probably don’t have a sample of complexity in front of us, but Papalin remains an excellent rum with great value for money.
Papalin is a classic rum, well made, quite smooth, it is a pleasure to drink.
The spicy component mixed with some mineral notes that give it a good development is interesting and very expressive.
But let’s revisit its history:
It starts with a 4-year-old stock of rum from five of the oldest distilleries in Haiti, distilled and left to age in Port au Prince, under the tropical sun.
The blend recipe, personally prepared by Luca Gargano, remains a secret.
Tasting notes:
Colour: Papalin rum is a not too bright amber with bronze reflections.
Perfumes: The nose shows a bouquet of good intensity, very clean and balanced. You perceive the pure scent of molasses from the island of Haiti and then immediately behind the hot spices.
Taste: In the mouth, the attack is warm, velvety, of medium softness. Very intense, but always very balanced taste of molasses and warm spices.
The finish is pleasant, with a slow development and good persistence.
