Marseghina Amarone Della Valpolicella D.O.C.G 2018 75 cl.
Veneto – Italy
Beautiful and deep pomegranate red color in the glass and with a corresponding aroma of plums and black cherries with hints of raspberry. Soft, round and full on the tongue and with a long and aromatic aftertaste. There is no doubt that you are drinking Amarone.

“HAS THE WHOLE PACKAGE”
Here is a beautiful example of an Amarone that has the whole package. Warm spices, sweet red fruit in the direction of red cherries, alcoholic warmth, powerful acidity that together with fine tannins almost hurts the mouth. This is an intense Amarone that proudly shows why this type of wine has become so popular.

“PURE POWER”
Amarone made correctly is close to perfect wine – they often have it all – power, fullness, high alcohol percentage, nice structure and, on a good day, also nice ripe tannins. This one is from Marseghina, which is one of the major producers in Veneto. It is made from the classic Amarone grapes. On the nose it has an intense aroma of sweet pickled cherries, pickled plums, raspberry jam and oak. The mouth is full, where the fruit spills out – layers upon layers of intense fruit – pure power, where the tannins come and keep the wine under control and ensure a nice balance. Pairing wine for Christmas and New Year’s food Points: 95/100 What type of Christmas food does this wine go well with and why? With this wine you must definitely serve roast duck, goose or roast pork with all the side dishes. It can easily handle anything you throw at it. The rich gravy, the sweet browned potatoes and the red cabbage. If you make the red cabbage yourself, I would encourage you to make sure it has a little more acid than usual, it will create a perfect balance if you choose this red wine for your Christmas menu.

Serve it with wild game or mallard duck without being too thick and tingly on the side.
My preference for amarone isn’t particularly strong after tasting my way through several port-like versions over the years that were either too heavy and alcoholic or so sugary and viscous that I might as well have been drinking… well, port. Fortunately, all that does not apply to this finely balanced amarone, which actually behaves like a red wine. In the nose both cherry and cherry stone, a little cool herb and a hiss of plum brandy. In terms of taste, there is complete control over the sweetness. The freshness is preserved and the chocolate/mocha notes and the pervasive cherry acidity keep the wine on track throughout. It is all rounded off by a restrained bite of tannins. If you want to complete the taste experience, I recommend that you cool the wine down to 16 degrees. Serve it with wild game or mallard duck without being too thick and tingly on the side.
About Marseghina
Marseghina is the result of the meeting of two families, united by their passion for wine since the beginning of the 20th century. A passion that has been passed down from generation to generation and resulted in the joint project of Luciano Sancassani and Riccardo Degani.
The state-of-the-art winery was inaugurated in 2015.
Valpantena’s terroir stretches east of Verona and consists of a north-south oriented valley. Geologically, the area is similar to the famous Valpolicella, as the valley is also part of the same wine region: Valpantena is actually part of the Valpolicella wine region.
The vineyards extend over 50 hectares with terraces in great respect for the environment and the surrounding landscape. Fifteen hectares embrace the natural “amphitheatre” of Sezano, which also surrounds the winery and offices. Thanks to an impressive job of terracing, the vineyards have an ideal exposure to the vines.
The vineyards produce the grape varieties typical of the area, such as Corvina, Rondinella and Corvinone, accompanied by international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
