Louis Jadot – Couvent des Jacobins Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay 2022 75 cl.

Beaune – France

The production area for this wine is basically all of Burgundy. The cuvée must, and can, be blended as a balanced blend of grapes from Côte d’Or, Chalonnaise and Saint Véran’s best vineyards. The Mâconnais grapes give the wine its freshness, while Côte d’Or and Chalonnaise stand for structure and body. A wine with very fine fruitiness and freshness, which is emphasized by the fact that part of the wine has only been in steel tank, and the more rounded character and structure is emphasized by the part that has been barrel-aged. The fruit notes are clear; peach, pear and grapefruit, which develop into some more floral notes, with a piquant vanilla touch. Wine with fine elegance, very pleasant and tuned in pure harmony.

Label & Logo: The face on the label is the wine god Bacchus and the illustration dates from the company’s founding in 1859.
Vinification: Partially aged in barrels.
Tasting notes: Clear fruit notes of peach, pear and grapefruit, which develop into some more floral notes with a spicy vanilla touch.
Recommended for: Fatty fish, Light poultry, Sushi, Shellfish, Allround, Oysters

Louis Jadot is among Burgundy’s most historic and prestigious wine producers for both white and red wines. Louis Henri Denis Jadot came to Beaune from Belgium at the end of the 18th century, and bought a number of vineyards, e.g. the legendary monopoly field “Beaune 1. Cru Clos des Ursules”, which to this day is a signature wine of the house. Maison Louis Jadot was established in 1859. The winery has a total of 150 hectares of vineyards, of which 70 hectares are in the Côte d’Or. Today, some mistakenly regard Louis Jadot as a businessman who buys grapes from local winegrowers, but up to 70% of the wines come from the house’s own fields. The fact that Louis Jadot is today one of the most well-regarded wine houses in Burgundy must be largely attributed to the fact that the distinguished and praised wines since 1970 have been created and profiled by the legendary and charismatic winemaker Jacques Lardière. He retired in 2012 and left the position to Frédéric Barnier, who, with great respect for Lardière’s work, has taken up the legacy and the task. The fact that all wines are produced at an extremely high level has resulted, among other things, in Louis Jadot’s wines being represented in 19 out of France’s 27 three-star Michelin restaurants.

Burgundy stretches from Auxerre in the north, where we find Chablis, to Lyon in the south, if Beaujolais is included. South of Chablis, we find the best-known area Côte d’Or – the golden slope – where the majority of the Grand Cru vineyards are located. The Côte d’Or is subdivided into two parts: the Côte de Nuits in the north and the Côte de Beaune in the south. The area where wine is grown is only about 40 km long and about 2 km wide, and consists of a series of small towns (Villages), surrounded by flat vineyards to the east and steep slopes along the western ridge. Burgundy has 100 different appellations, roughly equally divided between white and red wines. The Grand Cru appellation, which is Burgundy’s finest, embraces just 33 famous fields and covers just 1.4% of the total production.
