LAGG Kilmory Edition is the flagship release from the new Lagg Distillery, located on the southern tip of the Isle of Arran – a place where the sea meets rugged coastline and peat smoke rises once more from the land. As the peated sister to the Lochranza Distillery in the north, Lagg has a clear identity of its own: this is a distillery dedicated entirely to smoky single malts.
Named after the local parish of Kilmory, this whisky signals a return to Arran’s long-lost tradition of peated whisky production. Made from Concerto malted barley and peated to around 50 ppm, it is matured exclusively in first-fill bourbon casks and bottled at 46% ABV – non-chill filtered and with no added colouring, preserving the whisky’s natural character.
On the nose, it offers vibrant peat smoke laced with heather, charred citrus peel, and a vegetal earthiness. There’s a youthful sharpness to it, but also a clean freshness that reveals its coastal roots. The palate is oily and full-bodied, with sweet smoke, grilled lemon, pepper, herbs, and soft vanilla cream from the casks. The finish is medium in length with lingering peat ash, citrus zest, and a subtle sweetness.
LAGG Kilmory Edition is a confident debut – a whisky that embraces its smoky profile without overwhelming the drinker. It’s complex, bold, and full of character, yet also refined and well-structured. Perfect for those who appreciate peated whisky with clarity, balance, and modern craft behind every drop.
