A true rarity from Kopke, the specialist in barrel-aged port wines. Old casks of white port wine of varying ages are put together for this gem with an aromatic profile like a 30-year-old white port wine. As the port wine is only made from green grapes, the aging is felt to a particular degree, as the imprint of the grapes is less visible in the aroma picture than a corresponding tawny.
30 year old white port wine is an unbelievably rare quantity. Although the demand for white, aged quality port has exploded in recent years, this demand was many decades away when the base wines for this port were created.
Aroma and taste is an intense explosion of currants, pickled citrus peel, dried apricot, nuts and dried figs. An excellent acidity keeps the sweetness in check and gives a harmonious whole.
Best enjoyed without food, but also nice to drink with a well-made apple strudel, crème caramel or foie gras terrine. But if there is a good blue mold cheese in the fridge, then that will also be a good choice.
Enjoyed at approx. 11-14°, i.e. slightly cooler than the other barrel-aged port wines.
