Douro Valley Port
Kopke’s tawnies are legendary, especially the blended tawnies with an age indication and not least Kopke’s colheitas belong to the super league.
Kopke Fine Tawny is the base port wine, made from selected blends from several different lots in Douro Superior and Cima Corgo and after vinification aged for 4-7 years on vats of varying size, where the maturation characterizes the wine and adds it its distinctive and aromatic character.
Kopke’s tawny is densely mahogany colored with red reflectors. Aroma and taste have shades of roasted nuts, pickled orange, prunes and raisins with a hint of Christmas spices. The taste has a well-balanced sweetness that balances acid and alcohol, so that the whole appears as extremely harmonious and without excessive sweetness. The aftertaste has a good length and is without astringent tannic acid.
Enjoyed with nut-inspired desserts, hard cheeses, the glass untimely or as the end of a great meal.
The recommended serving temperature is approx. 14-16 °.
Remember to use a good white wine glass for port wine. The traditional port wine glasses in shot glass size do not fit, but are anachronisms that need to be retired. There must be room for the wine and to fling it into the glass so that its aromas can unfold.
