Clase Azul Mezcal Durango is made from Cenzio agave from Durango, located at high altitudes northeast of Jalisco in Mexico, where this agave grows wild. Mezcal Durango is a more elegant version of the agave spirit mezcal, featuring notes of herbs, green olives, and citrus.
The bottle’s design reflects the production process, where the agave is baked on black volcanic stones after being harvested in the wild. These volcanic stones impart a natural, mild smokiness to the mezcal. The bottle’s cap is called Shakira and is crafted using an ancient decorative technique where each bead is applied by hand.
Clase Azul is a family-owned producer of premium tequila and mezcal based in the small village of Santa Maria Canchesda in Los Altos, the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. Their collaboration with and respect for the indigenous Mazahua people and their ancient traditions in ceramics and painting have resulted in Clase Azul’s distinctive bottles. Each bottle takes 11 days to craft, and since they are shaped and painted by hand, every bottle is completely unique.
Clase Azul Reposado is aged for 8 months in bourbon barrels. Clase Azul Añejo then uses these barrels for an additional 25 months of aging. Clase Azul Ultra is aged for a full five years in sherry casks, giving it its deep reddish-brown color and silky smooth character.
