CDI – Great Whites – Vietnam Overproof 70 CL 50%

Quang Nam Distillery – Vietnam

The Great Whites are Compagnie des Indes’ line of exceptional white rums. Carefully selected from distilleries around the world, to showcase the most aromatic and full-bodied white rums. Based on sugar cane juice or molasses, and distilled on pot still or column still, these rums may vary in styles, flavors and origins, but they all share the same powerful character. They are always bottled as overproof rum at 50° Alc./Vol. This is Vietnam Great White, which is made from sugarcane juice, and distilled in a copper column still in March 2021 at Quang Nam Distillery.

Color: Clear.
Aroma: Aromas of truffle, humus, fresh sugarcane, sandalwood and incense.
Tasting notes: A little iodized (which is a little surprising), Williams pear, a little wood, white tea and caramel.

Serving suggestion: Try it plain – and then try it in your daiquiri or mai tai.

Florent Beuchet of Compagni des Indes has started bottling very high quality white rum. The new series “Great Whites” initially focuses on white rum from Vietnam, Jamaica & Ghana.
Whether the rums are fermented on molasses or fresh cane sugar juice, for a short or long time, and distilled on a column or in a pot still, they have one thing in common. That they show lots of character and local traditions and colour. In short – a very large and exciting space experience.

Compagnie des Indes is a so-called “independent bottler”. The company was started by the Frenchman Florent Beuchet, and draws inspiration from the British East India Company, which in the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries imported rare and exotic goods from all over the world to Europe. In the same way, Florent finds casks from brokers and distilleries throughout the rum world – from Florida to Jamaica, Fiji and Indonesia – and bottles them under the Compagnie des Indes brand. Many are bottled as “single casks”, but CDI also publishes well-composed blends.

For the past few years, the rest of Europe has turned enviously to Denmark when Florent serves the annual batch of exclusive, Danish single cask bottlings. These are always bottled at cask strength and without added color or sugar – something that makes the teeth of rum geeks around the world water! But you will also find sweeter and easy-drinking rums in the series of trans-Caribbean blends; e.g. Latino and Caraïbes. There is something for everyone here.
