Macduff 13 Year Old in the 100 Proof series is a whisky that often surprises with its balance of freshness and depth. Bottled at 57.1% (100 proof), non-chill filtered and with natural colour, it delivers extra presence and a clear cask-strength drive on the palate.
This release was distilled in 2011 and bottled in 2025 after 13 years of maturation in a combination of first-fill and refill Oloroso sherry butts. The result is typically a sherry influence that’s clear yet well-balanced: dark fruit and cocoa are joined by a lighter, brighter fruitiness and a gentle nutty elegance. On the nose you’ll often find raisins, plums and chocolate, alongside a fresher lift that keeps the profile alert. The palate is powerful and concentrated with dried fruit, cocoa and warming spice, where the sherry provides backbone rather than simple sweetness. The finish is long, carrying fruit and chocolate into a lightly drying, nutty oak note that adds structure.
Serving tip: Try it neat first. A few drops of water usually make the fruit more defined and bring extra nuance to the chocolate and spice.
