Amrut Indian Single Malt whiskey comes from one of India’s oldest distilleries. The whiskey ages in both bourbon casks and new American oak in Bangalore’s warm climate before being bottled at 46% alcohol without caramel coloring or chill filtration. Amrut Single Malt is packed with malty and nutty notes, bright fruit and a light sweetness.
Colour: Golden.
Aroma: Allspice, plums, apricot, roasted malt and hazelnuts.
Tasting notes: The taste is rich, with notes of malt, apple, biscuits and caramelized nuts.
Serving suggestion: Should be enjoyed neat.
Amrut is a family-owned distillery in Bangalore, India. They started making malt whiskey here already back in the 1980s. For a long time the whiskey was only used in blends (and by far the majority of the distillery’s production is actually vodka, gin and rum), but in 2004 Amrut was launched as a single malt brand, initially only in Scotland and only in 2010 in India . Today, Amrut can be found on the shelves in over 40 countries, and the distillery has achieved international recognition with a sea of awards and medals in its bag.
The barley is grown in northern India and malted in Jaipur and Delhi before being fermented and distilled at Amrut in Bangalore. A small amount of smoked malt imported from Scotland is also used. The hot climate causes incredibly fast maturation and very high evaporation, which is why India’s oldest whiskey so far is “only” 12 years old: the cleverly named Greedy Angels, which Amrut released in 2016. All Amrut is bottled without chill filtration or added coloring.
