Gevrey-Chambertin is the northernmost of the major communes in the Côte de Nuits, with 26 Premier Crus and 8 Grands Crus. Louis Jadot’s Gevrey-Chambertin wines are produced from grapes grown on the extension of the slopes with the Grands Crus and Premier Crus. These vineyards vary considerably in quality, and often the producer’s name is more important to note here than anywhere else in Burgundy. Louis Jadot’s wines are, of course, of very high quality, and the grapes are quality-controlled for each vintage. The must ferments for 3–4 weeks and is then aged in oak barrels for 12–15 months. Jadot’s Gevrey-Chambertin represents the commune’s typical characteristics: deep in colour, a multifaceted symphony of berries and bouquet solely of red fruit, tannin, structure, and a long, persistent finish.

Louis Jadot is among Burgundy’s most historic and prestigious wine producers of both white and red wines. Louis Henri Denis Jadot came to Beaune from Belgium in the late 18th century and purchased several vineyards, including the legendary monopole “Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules,” which remains one of the house’s signature wines to this day. Maison Louis Jadot was founded in 1859. The estate owns a total of 150 hectares of vineyards, 70 of which are located in the Côte d’Or. Today, some mistakenly regard Louis Jadot as a négociant buying grapes from local growers, but up to 70% of the wines come from the estate’s own vineyards. The fact that Louis Jadot is now considered one of the most highly respected wine producers in Burgundy is largely due to the renowned and charismatic winemaker Jacques Lardière, who crafted and shaped the wines from 1970 until his retirement in 2012. He was succeeded by Frédéric Barnier, who has taken on the legacy with great respect for Lardière’s work. The consistently exceptional quality of all the wines has resulted in Louis Jadot being represented on 19 of France’s 27 three-star Michelin restaurants.
