The color is a transparent green with a yellowish hue. On the nose, which is of medium intensity, you find white flowers, fennel, peach, green apple, and pomelo. The palate is marked by fresh acidity. It is a dry wine with plenty of minerality, a slight salty note, nuances of citrus peel, and a faintly bitter finish.
The wine shows a very typical varietal character and can be paired with salads, ceviche, asparagus, and chicken.
Bodegas Canderuela is located in the village of Fuentecén in Ribera del Duero and is headquartered in Logroño in Rioja. The estate is run by the Pérez Cuevas family, who are behind no less than 120 hectares of vineyards in total, spread across the wine regions of Rioja DOCa, DO Ribera del Duero, and DO Rueda. The vineyards in Rioja were planted 80 years ago, those in Ribera del Duero around 40 years ago, and those in Rueda around 30 years ago. Some of the vineyards are already cultivated according to controlled organic techniques, and it is the family’s goal to convert all vineyards to organic farming.
Today, the family’s fourth generation – Raquel, Leticia, Rubén, and MarÃa – is at the helm, still with valuable support from their parents. In Ribera del Duero, Bodegas Canderuela has four different estates/vineyards between Burgos, Fuentecén, and Soria, located at altitudes between 600 and 900 meters above sea level, with vines that are 35–40 years old. The great diversity in climate, soil, altitude, and cultivation methods makes it possible to produce a range of Tempranillo (Tinto del PaÃs)-based wines with significant stylistic differences. Above all, it allows the wines to be blended according to the character of each vintage, so that they achieve perfect harmony.
