Springbank 30 Years 2026 70 cl. 46%

Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Springbank 30 Years (2026) is one of the distillery’s most sought-after annual releases and represents the pinnacle of the core Springbank range. Based in Campbeltown, Springbank is famous for doing almost everything on site—(partial) floor malting, distillation, maturation, and bottling. The house style is lightly peated, coastal, and characteristically “oily” in texture, and the spirit is distilled 2.5 times, creating a distinctive balance of fruit-driven finesse and depth.

The 2026 edition is bottled at 46% ABV and matured predominantly in bourbon casks (around 85%) with a smaller portion of Oloroso sherry casks (around 15%) for added depth and spice. It’s a highly limited release, with an estimated global outturn of roughly 1,600 bottles.

In the glass, it’s remarkably vibrant for its age: fruit-led and lively with unmistakable Springbank identity. The nose often opens with soft honey, vanilla, and tropical/stone fruit, followed by sea-spray salinity, herbal notes, and gentle smoke. On the palate, layers of honeycomb, icing sugar, crystallised ginger, and demerara emerge, along with a distinct briny/salty edge that can recall salted caramel. The finish is long and elegant, carrying peat smoke, a mint/eucalyptus lift, and a dry maritime spiced character that lingers.

Serving

  • Best enjoyed neat in a larger glass with time to open up.

  • A few drops of water can lift the fruit and reveal more of the salty, herbal complexity.

At Springbank, 3 distinct types of whiskey are produced, which differ on a number of parameters. The classic Springbank has a light peat smoke. The smoke level is indicated (somewhat imprecisely) with a measurement of phenol in the finished malted barley and is approximately 10-15 “parts per million” (the malt is dried for 6 hours with peat smoke and 30 hours with hot air). Springbank is also distilled 2.5 times. “Longrow” – a strongly smoked variant was first made in 1973. Here the smoke is up to 50-55 ppm, the malt is dried for 48 hours with peat smoke, and it is distilled twice. The newest variant, Hazelburn, saw the light of day in 1997 when, for the first time, they tried completely unsmoked and triple-distilled whiskey. Of the approximately 175,000 liters the small Campbeltown distillery produces per year, 80% is Springbank, approximately 10% Longrow and 10% Hazelburn.

Regardless of which variant you’re after, Springbank is worth getting to know. It is the favorite distillery of many whiskey geeks and for good reason! As the only distillery in Scotland, they malt all the barley they need themselves. Color is never added and the whiskey is not chill-filtered.
