Domaine Jean Becker is just as skilled at sparkling wines as at still wines. This organic Crémant d’Alsace is proof of that. It is made using the “traditional” method from Auxerrois (90%), Pinot Gris (3%) and Chardonnay (7%) grapes, hand-harvested when perfectly ripe. Before disgorging, the wine rests on the lees for 6 months, developing depth and complexity. It is bottled as Extra Brut with 5 grams dosage.
Colour: Pale golden. Nose: Lemons, grapefruit, almonds and pear. Palate: Perfect balance and razor-sharp acidity. Notes of citrus (mandarin, lemon), apple and yeast. A delightful glass!
Serving suggestion: Enjoy well chilled with fish, shellfish, caviar, or cheeses such as Brillat-Savarin and Ossau-Iraty.
Domaine Jean Becker is an old, family-owned estate in Alsace with roots dating back to 1610. Since 1999 they have farmed their vineyards organically and, since 2001, have offered exclusively organic wines. The siblings Martine, Phillipe and Francois Becker run the estate today together with the rest of the team in Zellenberg, Alsace. Most wines are made from the classic Alsatian white varieties—Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Sylvaner, Gewürztraminer, etc.—but the family also produces a few red wines from Pinot Noir. Becker also farms several of the top Grand Cru sites, including Froehn, Schoenenbourg, Mandelberg and Sonnenglantz.
