In 2025, Japan’s most iconic whisky, Nikka From the Barrel, celebrates its 40th anniversary! Nikka marks the occasion with a new limited-edition release of the beloved blend in the stout bottle, named “Extra Marriage.”
From the Barrel is a blend of over 100 different components: single malt from Miyagikyo and Yoichi, plus grain whisky—primarily corn—from Nikka’s own Coffey stills as well as from abroad. After the master blender has combined the different batches, the final blend is aged further in cask. This stage of the process is called “marriage.” In Extra Marriage, the union lasts even longer—up to 6 months, which is twice as long as usual.
Color: Amber.
Nose: Deep and rich aromas of beeswax and honey, nutmeg, and caramelised pineapple.
Palate: Full-bodied and potent. Roasted malt, honey cake, ginger, heather, and milk chocolate.
Serving suggestion: Enjoy neat—or in cocktails, if you can bear it. It’s superb in an Old Fashioned!
