Vermouth Moderne is an elegant, aromatic and contemporary interpretation of classic vermouth, created with a clear focus on freshness, balance and modern drinking occasions. It combines the natural fruitiness of wine with lively spice and a bright citrus-driven character, resulting in a vermouth that feels both classic and refreshingly modern.

Created by Danish producer Den Klodsede Bjørn in collaboration with German winemaker Heiko Hoos, Vermouth Moderne is produced in southern Germany from wine made with Gewürztraminer and Muskateller grapes. The grape varieties are essential to its character: Gewürztraminer contributes aromatic, floral and perfumed notes, while Muskateller adds freshness, fruitiness and an inviting natural sweetness. The result is a vermouth with personality, balance and a highly appealing aromatic profile.

Aroma, taste and character

On the nose, Vermouth Moderne is expressive and inviting, with notes of citrus, grapefruit, aromatic grapes, lemon verbena, cardamom and gentle spice. The wine base provides a fresh and lightly perfumed character, while the botanicals add depth and complexity without making the expression heavy.

On the palate, it is fresh, gently sweet, tangy and spiced in a well-balanced style. Citrus brings energy and brightness, lemon verbena adds herbal elegance, while juniper and coriander seed provide a subtle spicy structure. Cardamom adds warmth and aromatic lift, rounding off the overall profile beautifully.

The finish is fresh, aromatic and lightly spiced, with lingering citrus, herbs and a pleasant touch of sweetness.

Style

Vermouth Moderne sits between classic sweet vermouth and a modern aperitif. It offers the aromatic complexity expected from vermouth, but with a fresher, brighter and more contemporary expression. This makes it highly versatile for modern serves where freshness, aroma and lightness are key.

It works beautifully as an aperitif over ice, in a simple highball with tonic or grapefruit soda, or as an ingredient in cocktails.
