Timorous Beastie Madeira Cask Finish 48% – Limited Edition is a Highland blended malt Scotch whisky from Douglas Laing, composed of 100% Highland single malts and finished in hand-selected Madeira wine casks. Limited to just 4,000 bottles worldwide and bottled at 48% ABV, it is released with no chill-filtration and no added colouring – crafted with artisan cheese pairings firmly in mind.
Style & origin
Timorous Beastie takes its name from Robert Burns’ poem “To a Mouse” and showcases the sweet, fruity and gently spicy side of Highland malt. In this Madeira Edition, the classic profile is elevated by several months of finishing in Madeira casks, adding grape-like sweetness, depth and extra complexity while keeping the bright Highland orchard fruit at the core.
Nose
The nose is bright, honeyed and layered:
ripe orchard fruits – apples and pears
honeyed malt and soft cereal notes
toasted almonds and nutty hints
a subtle floral bouquet and gentle oak spice
Palate
On the palate, the whisky is silky, mouth-filling and richly flavoured:
waves of toffee and soft caramel
caramelised apples and juicy plums
gentle baking spice – cinnamon, nutmeg and a touch of pepper
a smooth, winey sweetness from the Madeira cask finish
Finish & serving
The finish is medium to long:
candied orange, vanilla, sweet oak and warm cinnamon
a lingering, nutty sweetness that invites another sip
Timorous Beastie Madeira Cask Finish is best enjoyed neat in a tulip-shaped glass, with the option of a small splash of water to open up more fruit, honey and spice. It is an outstanding partner for cheese – especially Gruyère, mature cheddar, creamy soft cheeses, blue cheeses, dried figs, nuts and dark chocolate.
