Tignanello IGT 2022 75 cl.

Marchesi Antinori – Tuscany Italy

Iconic Super Tuscan from Marchesi Antinori – a modern classic blending Sangiovese and Bordeaux grapes with finesse, depth, and remarkable ageability

Tignanello 2022 is the latest release of one of Italy’s most iconic red wines. Produced by Marchesi Antinori on the Tignanello estate in the heart of Chianti Classico, this is a wine that rewrote Italian wine history. First introduced in the 1970s, Tignanello was among the first Tuscan wines to break with DOC traditions, omitting white grapes and introducing barrique ageing and non-native varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The result: the birth of the “Super Tuscan” category – and a wine that consistently ranks among the finest in the world.

The 2022 vintage was shaped by a warm and dry start, followed by timely August rains and a cooler September. This provided optimal conditions for Sangiovese and the Bordeaux varietals to fully ripen while retaining freshness and balance. The grapes were hand-harvested and vinified separately, with spontaneous malolactic fermentation in barriques. The wine was then aged 15 months in French and Hungarian oak, partly new, before being blended and matured further in bottle before release.

The blend consists of 78% Sangiovese, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 4% Cabernet Franc, showcasing the elegance of Tuscany with the structure of Bordeaux. On the nose, Tignanello 2022 offers intense aromas of ripe cherry, violet, mint, and blackcurrant, layered with notes of balsamic herbs, white pepper, cocoa, and delicate vanilla from oak. The palate is concentrated yet elegant, with polished tannins, vibrant acidity, and flavours of dark plum, red berries, spice and mineral undertones. The finish is long, savoury, and refined.

International critics have again praised the wine highly – Vinous awarded it 95 points, highlighting its precision, energy and cellar-worthiness. Tignanello 2022 is a collector’s wine with serious longevity – but also an accessible, luxurious experience for those who open it in its youth.

Serving suggestion:
Serve at 16–18 °C, after 1–2 hours of decanting. Pairs beautifully with grilled red meat, game, aged cheeses, mushroom risottos, and tomato-based pasta dishes.
